Support Women at Risk of Breast Cancer

We have been supporting an organization called Women at Risk for several years. This non-profit organization enhances the lives of women who are at high risk of developing breast cancer as well as women with breast cancer. It is a very effective approach through research, education, a registry and other forms of support including monthly group meetings, resource library and a patient navigator. Affiliated with New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Women at Risk was founded in 1991 by volunteer patients and doctors.

A major emphasis of the program is early detection by helping to identify high risk women and affording education and treatment through its offered programs. The High Risk Program is available to women who have:

  • One or more first degree relatives with pre-menopausal breast cancer.
  • Two or more first degree relatives with post-menopausal breast cancer.
  • A positive history of BRCA 1, 2.
  • A biopsy-proven history of lobulor neoplasia (lobular carcinoma in situ).
  • A biopsy-proven history of atypical ductal hyperplasia or atypical lobular hyperplasia.

Women who are identified as at risk are registered, educated, tested and provided with on-going support.
